Jay J. Ziznewski
Chairman and President of the 200 Club of Middlesex County
The 200 Club of Middlesex County mourns the passing of Jay J. Ziznewski, a devoted member, leader, and friend. Jay was a man of exceptional character, whose lifelong contributions to both the legal community and his civic endeavors have left an indelible mark on our county.
Born and raised in Perth Amboy, Jay was a standout student, graduating with honors from Perth Amboy High School in 1966. His academic journey continued at the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated cum laude in 1970 with a degree in economics. Jay’s pursuit of justice led him to Seton Hall University Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1976. He would go on to build a distinguished legal career, serving as Assistant Middlesex County Prosecutor, partner at the prestigious law firm of Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, and in numerous other legal and civic capacities.
Jay’s legal career was marked by his dedication to both individuals and institutions, including banks, hospitals, professional sports teams, and municipal organizations. He was deeply committed to public service, having served as Law Director for the City of Perth Amboy and in several other significant roles within the legal and public sectors. His commitment to the community extended beyond his professional life, as he served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club of Perth Amboy, the Middlesex County College Foundation, and the Woodbridge Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.
Jay’s leadership within the 200 Club of Middlesex County, where he served as Chairman and President, exemplified his unwavering dedication to supporting law enforcement and public safety. Under his stewardship, the 200 Club expanded its efforts to assist those who serve and protect our communities. His guidance and vision will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
In addition to his professional and civic achievements, Jay’s athletic prowess was also legendary. A multi-sport standout, Jay was an All-State and All-American in both football and basketball at Perth Amboy High School. He went on to play for nationally ranked teams at Notre Dame, earning accolades for his athleticism and leadership on and off the field. Jay’s passion for sports and his community was a defining part of who he was, with his achievements celebrated both locally and nationally.
Throughout his life, Jay was the recipient of many honors, including being inducted into the Perth Amboy High School Hall of Fame, named “Irishman of the Year” by the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick, and “Citizen of the Year” by the Woodbridge Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. His legacy as a community leader, professional, and friend will continue to inspire future generations.
Jay’s commitment to excellence, service, and leadership serves as a model for all of us. He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering support for those in need and a commitment to bettering his community. The 200 Club of Middlesex County extends its deepest condolences to Jay’s family and all those who had the honor of working with him. His contributions to the organization and his impact on our community will never be forgotten.
